Windmill Collage Project with Little Chute Mighty Mustangs 4HThese collages are based on a traditional American windmill quilt design. The western United States was settled after 1850 with the help of windmills used to pump water for irrigation, hoist bags of grain, saw wood and run cotton gins, printing presses and lathes. Early settler women would express their creativity through practical quilt making, often creating designs based on things in their everyday lives, such as windmills! The kids were encouraged to experiment with the traditional layout of triangles by trying new arrangements and adding 3-dimensional design elements. One of the collages below represents a windmill that spun out of control and flew apart. Can you guess which one?
